Rev. Captain Odongo Kosea the 6th Bishop Elect of Soroti Diocese to be consecrated this Sunday 16th-June-2019.

Rev. Captain Odongo Kosea the 6th Bishop of Soroti Diocese will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on June 16 2019 at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Soroti.

Bishop Nicodemus Okille has been the caretaker Bishop of Soroti, providing episcopal leadership on behalf of the Archbishop.

Rev Captain Odongo was born on January 12 1971 in Amuria district.  He holds a Master of Theology from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, a Bachelor of Divinity from Uganda Christian University, a Higher Diploma in Theology from Carlile College, Nairobi. He has also attended a variety of Courses, trainings and workshops.

Rev. Captain Odongo got born again at the age of 17 on June 15 1988 at St. Peter’s Cathedral while staying in Soroti town during the time of insurgency in Teso. The Gospel of salvation was preached and, he said, “pointed to me directly as a sinner.”

Rev Captain Odongo Kosea worked as Diocesan Mission Coordinator, Soroti Diocese, Diocesan Discipleship Coordinator, Soroti Diocese, Deputy Principal, Priest in Charge Emmanuel Church, Parish Priest, and Curate. He also served as a Board Chairman for the Amuria District Development Agency and in many other capacities within Church related structures.   

Currently, he serves as the Chaplain to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.  He is married to Grace Acen Odongo and God has blessed them with children.

The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre on 20th February 2019.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Oliach Eciru to visit Mama Bukedea radio.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Oliach Eciru will visit Mama Bukedea radio 102.1 F.M and Bukedea Comprehensive Academy before he proceeds to Soroti.

Rev. Fr. Eciru is Bishop elect of Soroti Catholic Diocese to be consecrated on Saturday, May 25th, 2019.

Eciru succeeds Rev. Emmanuel Obbo, A.J, who was elevated to the position of Archbishop of Tororo Archdiocese in 2007. Archbishop Obbo himself succeeded Bishop Erasmus Wandera, who was the first Bishop of the Diocese when it was created in 1981.

Fr. Eciru, born in 1970 in Ookai village, Dokolo Parish, Gweri sub-county in Soroti District to the family of John Francis Oliach and Anna Maria Aguti (both now deceased), is the last born in the family of eight. He attended St Aloysius Demonstration Primary School before joining St. Peters Minor Seminary Madera, Soroti, and later St Pius X Seminary Nagongera, Tororo. He also attended his Philosophicum at St Thomas Aquinas National Seminary Katigondo, Masaka, Theologicum at St Paul National Seminary Kinyamasika, Fort-Portal.

His diaconate ordination was on 10 August 2002, at St Ann’s Catholic Parish, Usuk. 
Fr. Eciru also worked as formator and teacher of latin at St Peters Minor Seminary Madera.
He also served as a formator and lecturer of sacred scripture at St Paul’s National Seminary Kinyamasika Fort-Portal and St Mary’s National seminary Ggaba, Kampala.

Fr. Eciru is the first catholic Bishop of Teso origin to work in his native Soroti Catholic Diocese.
