Gunshots were fired yesterday night in Tajar village, Kamutur Sub County in Bukedea district as police tried to get hold of three suspects who escaped from custody.
Two of the suspects have not yet been identified while the third 18-year-old Wakoko Musa was arrested for defiling a 15-year-old girl from the same area. The trio was held at a room in Tajar health center.
According to reports, the suspects fled at around 9pm after breaking the door of the room they were held in.
Over 10 bullets were released by Tajar ASTU commander only identified as Okiring in an effort to stop the suspects but in vain. Their whereabouts is currently unknown.
However, Jackson Ojekede the chairperson LC3 Kamutur says that much as he does not condone defilement, the allegation that Afande Okiring aimed the gun at suspects was improper as he could have ended up killing them.
In 2018 police in Tajar shot dead two suspects after a slight misunderstanding.
Efforts to talk to OC Okiring have been futile as he was not picking our calls.
However, Moses Bwayo the councilor for Tajar parish says he had gone to see the suspects earlier on Monday but was shocked to hear gunshots aimed at them later in the night.
He meanwhile denied accusations that he had tried to force police officers to release the suspects.
